If you’re reading this, that means you’ve probably read my ‘Year in Review: 2017’ post. I hope you found that insightful. I always think its odd posting prose stuff on here, but less so if its poetry.
I’m not a “New Year New Me” type of person, I don’t think that you can make a new you but I believe that you can improve, adapt and be better. That’s my idea behind this post, I’m setting goals that will make me the best version of me that I can be.
I’m hoping that I will be able to stick to these by this time next year and write about them in next years review post.
So the first goal I’m going to set myself is: to continue going to the gym.
This may seem relatively easy, however my self esteem gets in the way sometimes and I think that I can’t be bothered. In the past, I have taken up “fads” and hardly any have continued into adulthood. The only hobby that I have kept is writing poetry. The past attempts at keeping hobbies have been woeful; I have stopped playing the drums, the guitar, singing, rock climbing, skateboarding and Judo.
With this exercising and going to the gym I’ve done all right so far this year, but in 2018 I want it to continue. The next step is to lose weight but keep muscle structure, which I imagine will be quite tough. However, it’s something that has become quite important to me, the fact that I am keeping healthy and fit. It’s been helping my overall happiness and self esteem, so I feel that I need to stick at it.
The second goal is: to visit at least 2 new countries this year.
Now this goal is a bit more difficult as it involves spending money and choosing two countries off my bucket list. I must stipulate that this goal could involve going to a particular state in the US. I have a scratch map on my wall and so I’d like to scratch some more places off next year.
I have a feeling that I will get to Spain this year, as I want to visit Madrid and Barcelona. I want to sample authentic Tapas and see more of the Spanish culture. In addition, a ‘side goal’ of mine is to visit either the Santiago Bernabeu or Nou Camp football stadiums, a further reason to get myself to Spain next year.
The third goal is: to do more things I enjoy.
This goal is quite an all encompassing one. It involves: seeing friends, going to gigs, going to football matches, visiting places in the UK and the world, watching films, going to the gym, reading books and going to restaurants.
I suppose this goal is fairly easy to stick to, but I want to have more things to talk about in my life and to say that I’ve done. I’ve learnt this year that it is important to create moments that you’ll remember, or pictures that you can look back at. That’s why I want to do more things I enjoy.
In addition, I want to be able to go to football matches with my Dad, see bands live and see my friends. I want to be able to say that I’ve seen places or done something with my spare time. This past half of 2017 I’ve only ever been at work, the gym, my flat and the pub. It’s become a little lonely, and so I want to do more with my time.
That’s it for my goals of 2018. It’s not much, but it should at least add some substance to my life. Hopefully this time next year I can say I’ve done all of that.
