A while ago I wrote a post on here that was titled ‘Inspirations’ talking about how I came to writing and how I evolved over the years with it.
This Part 2 post is basically an extension of that first one. A clearer, more defined extension hopefully.
As I stated in my first post, I was influenced and inspired by many musicians as well as writers. It is worth noting that I cant play an instrument, so when I’m talking about musicians I am, for the most part, talking about lyricists.
The first of these important lyricists is Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die. He is the singer for the band and sole composer of lyrics. It makes sense to me that he is a big influence to me, he was first an English teacher before turning to music. His lyrics are filled with snippets from books and novels that he has obviously read, this is what makes them great. He combines these with wonderfully crafted lines of his own volition.
The second of these is Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie. A man whose lyrics are filled with emotion and are incredibly relatable. His words showcase a wide range of emotions and are sung with such heartfelt purity that I cant help but admire them.
The third and last lyricist that has inspired me is a guy called Max Bemis from the band Say Anything. He is a man who has a mass of troubles, he is bipolar, has had drug and alcohol addiction, yet in spite of all this has become a father and husband. It is for his lyrics that I will remember him though, he is probably the best song writer I have come across. He crafts a lot of the music and lyrics himself. In the end, you get catchy, though provoking and relatable lyrics that showcase a mass of metaphors and original description.
Hopefully this post will inspire people to check out these bands, either way I figured you’d find this interesting to read.
